  • Evelyn Lorene Scott passed away on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at the Independence Manor Care Center.
    Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 19, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1400 Sheley Road, Independence, Mo. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
    Evelyn was born in Orrick, Mo., on August 20, 1922, to James Elvin Taylor and Mildred Hall Taylor. She graduated from Orrick High School in 1940 and attended Draughan Business College. She married Vernon C. Scott on May 21, 1941, in Olathe, Kan., and was a devoted wife until his death in 2004. She was a homemaker and for many years was a part-time church secretary for Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was a devout Christian and an active member of both Westminster and Trinity Presbyterian churches, serving as deacon, elder, children’s and adult’s Sunday school teacher and on numerous committees. Evelyn dabbled in many artistic endeavors until she discovered a talent for china painting. She taught china painting for many years and her family and many friends prized her hand-painted china as gifts.
    She is survived by her loving children, Ron Scott and wife, Judy, of Plano, Texas, Sally Burns and husband, Steve, of Independence, and stepdaughter, Rose Sorensen and husband, Bob, of Camdenton, Mo. A grandson, Brandon Burns and his wife, Sharon, and four great-grandchildren, Brian, Cam, Marek and Brooks survive her. She also leaves two sisters and four brothers and their spouses to mourn her death.
    In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Trinity Presbyterian Church.
