  • A man faces charges in a shooting in Lee’s Summit on Sunday in which the victim suffered what are considered to be permanent injuries.
Ronald L. Hall, 65, of Lee’s Summit was charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action in the connection with the shooting at a home in Lee’s Summit, the Jackson County prosecutor’s office said Monday.
Police were called just after 4 p.m. Saturday. Authorities said several men were at Hall’s house in the 200 block of Northeast Orchard, drinking and watching the Chiefs game. There was some good-natured trading of insults, but two of the men got into an argument. Authorities say Hall shot the victim in the face with a shotgun, and the man fell to the ground in the front yard. As two friends tried to help the wounded man, Hall stepped back into the house.
Police arrived and got the victim behind a parked vehicle for cover and then carried him to Lee’s Summit fire personnel a few blocks away. The victim had a stroke and is likely to have permanent brain damage.
Hall was inside the home with a 2-month-old baby, refusing to come out. Homes within several blocks were evacuated. After several hours, police went into the home, found the baby and took Hall into custody.
