As Anna Juarez touched the wall, a loud roar went up.

Teammates, parents and fans cheered the junior as she qualified for state in the 100-yard butterfly as the Blue Springs girls swimming and diving team downed Park Hill 125-61 at Centennial Pool-Plex.

“Anna did a great job making her cut in the 100 fly,” Blue Springs coach Robert Sturman said of her finish in 1 minute, 3.76 seconds. “She swam a complete race tonight in it, started out fast and finished fast. Anna trains hard all year and it showed. She still has a faster race in her and has a few more cuts that she has to make.”

The Wildcats won eight of 12 events. Freshman Alyssa Aubuchon won the 200 freestyle (2:08.79) and 500 freestyle (5:44.76) and freshman Corinne Rinne won the 100 breaststroke (1:13.76).

“Alyssa swam a great 500 free and 200 free,” Sturman said. “Her cuts are just around the corner. Corinne missed her state cut by a few hundreths of a second.”

Ibby Simcox (100 backstroke), Patty Pampolina (diving) and all three relays also won.
