The Independence Animal Shelter is within 30 animals of its August adoption goal.

The shelter found homes for 10 dogs at its mobile locations on Saturday, bringing it once step closer to its monthly target for the the ASPCA Save More Lives challenge. The shelter that places the most dogs, cats, puppies and kittens in homes will win a $100,000 grant.

Here, that money would go back into the shelter’s low-cost spay and neuter program. The contest runs through October.

If you’d like to take home a rescue pet this month and help the shelter meet its August goal, visit the Independence Animal Shelter, 875 Vista Drive; PetSmart, 4010 S. Bolger Drive, Independence; or Petco, 1020 N.E. Coronado Drive, Blue Springs

All pets are altered, heartworm tested, vaccinated and microchipped before adoption.
