  • Five challengers are vying for seats on the Grain Valley Board of Aldermen.
After mayor David Halphin decided against running for another term, current aldermen Chuck Johnston and Mike Todd filed as candidates for mayor.
Challenger Scott Shafer is running for Ward 1, currently occupied by alderman Terry Beebe, who also filed to see if she can retain her seat. Shafer and Beebe filed on Tuesday, the last day to file.
In Ward 2, challengers Nancy Totton, Jeremiah Lewis and Linda Johnson are running for the seat held by alderman Todd.
For Ward 3, alderman Bob Headley will go up against challenger Reed Chambers.
If Johnston wins the mayoral race, he will nominate a person to fill his spot because the seat, Ward 2, is not up for re-election. The new board after the election must approve the nomination, said City Clerk Carol Branson.
