A Blue Springs man learned Thursday morning he will spend the next 12 years in federal prison for receiving and attempting to distribute child pornography over the Internet.

A federal judge sentenced 33-year-old Matthew William Lane to the prison term that does not allow parole. The judge also demanded Lane pay $5,000 in restitution to the victims.

Lane admitted that he used peer-to-peer file-sharing software to download child pornography movies over the Internet. He used software to allow others to download movies from his computer, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Kansas City that prosecuted Lane.

The Blue Springs man pleaded guilty to distributing and receiving child pornography over the Internet  and possessing child pornography.

Investigators found hundreds of movies and images of child porn on two computers and a thumb drive that were in Lane’s possession.

The case was investigated by the Blue Springs Police Department.
