No one was injured in a fire early this morning in an office building next to City Hall in Blue Springs.

A resident living behind City Hall saws flames around 3 a.m. Fire crews arrived to the 900 block of Main Street, east of City Hall, to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the basement.

Eddie Saffell, assistant fire chief for the Central Jackson County Fire Protection District, said the lower level of the building suffered significant damage, while the rest of the building suffered some smoke and water damage.

No one was inside the building and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains unknown, Saffell said.

Five businesses are in the building, including an office for rehabilitation and addiction services and a photography studio.
