According to The New York Observer, officials feared the swamp white oak trees and cobblestone would be damaged, but the only thing that happened was a few broken branches. The opening ceremonies remain on target.
- USA Today has started a special cartoonists gallery dedicated to 9/11 cartoons. They say that the single-minded effort is unprecedented, and comics such as "Hagar the Horrible" are even getting in on the memorial.
