Donald O. Herndon, 89, of Independence, MO passed away November 21, 2008 in Lee’s Summit, MO.

He was born July 31, 1919 at Grant City, MO to James Edmund Herndon and Myrtle Estelle Morris. A step-mother, Crystal Batson Herndon, preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Erma Jean Helm Herndon.

Two brothers and one sister also preceded him in death: Paul Edmund Herndon, Drexel Dean Herndon, and Loeta LuVon Herndon Rangitsch.

His survivors include one sister, Mary Janice Herndon Garrett, St. Joseph, MO and also a son, James M. Herndon, Wasilla, Alaska.

Donald served in the US Army (43rd Engineers) and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Ribbon. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Independence, MO and a life-time member of the American Legion, Tirey J. Ford Post 21, Independence, MO. He was a retired US Postal Service employee.

Services will be Wednesday, November 26 at Floral Hills with family visitation at 11 am and a memorial service at noon. Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice.
