  • After a huge disappointment last year, 4th of July festivities will return to Blue Springs this year.
That means boom-boom at Peve Stadium at Blue Springs High School, which had been undergoing renovation and construction since last summer.
The annual fireworks display, which attracts thousands, was canceled last year because of construction at Blue Springs High School.
The city had decided as early as January 2009 to cancel the event, which is paid for by business sponsors and a matching amount from the city’s operating fund.
Also leading to the decision last year was the city’s decrease in sales tax revenue, but figures have increased this year.
Kim Nakahodo, spokesperson for the city, said there are no new events scheduled for the display, which will take place on a Sunday night.
“Nothing new, except that the city will have it this year,” she said.
The Blue Springs Parks and Recreation Department holds the event.
Several vendors will return and sell fireworks in the city.
The following list is of those organizations planning to sell fireworks at several locations in the city:
Blue Springs Assembly, First UMC Parent’s Club, Dragon Booster Club, Vaughn-Hudnall VFW Post 6603, Blue Springs Jaycees, Faith and Joy Family Church, Blue Springs Elks Lodge, Guardians, Kenneth L. Yeagle Memorial VFW Post 30, Ronda’s Dance, Lakeview Pentecostal Church, Sunset Optimist Club of Blue Springs, Plaza Heights Christian Academy, Blue Springs South wrestling team, City Church, Committee for Youth Development, Pointe of Hope Lutheran Church and Blue Springs Youth Foundation.
