  • Julia Towler and her Blue Springs South volleyball teammates put on a clinic Tuesday night at as the Jaguars strolled past visiting Raymore-Peculiar 25-17, 25-15.
Towler, the University of Missouri-bound senior front-row standout, led the Jaguars with 11 kills and dominated play up front.
“In the last four matches, she has had three awesome nights,” South coach Dave MacLean said after his youthful team improved to 11-11 overall and 4-5 in Suburban Big Six play.
“She didn't have a very good night against Liberty, and after the match she told me, 'Coach, that's never going to happen again.' And it looks like she meant it. She was really fired up tonight and you can see that all the players are really coming together as a team.”
There were few holes in the Jaguars’ defense as they ran off to an 18-6 lead in the first game and a 19-8 lead in the second.
“We've been working hard on our defense all year, and it's really beginning to pay off,” MacLean said. “The girls are playing their best volleyball of the year, and this is the time to do it – right before the start of district play.”
South dominated the first game thanks to a seven-point run fueled by three Towler kills and two aces from Mia Swanegan. Towler helped the Jaguars run away with the second game when she had two kills and a block to fuel a 9-1 run.
“We're really playing better,” Towler said. “And it's so much fun, because this is the time of year you want your team to gel. Raymore-Peculiar is a very good team, and we played a great match tonight to beat them in two games.
“We have the Dig Pink (where the Jaguars play host to crosstown rival Blue Springs in a cancer awareness contest) Thursday and it's great to go into that match after a big win like this.
“What's so cool is that even though we're so young, we're out there having a good time, and now, we're winning too. Every win we get will help our seeding for district.”
