  • The William Chrisman and Van Horn soccer teams played on and on and on.
After 80 minutes of regulation play, two 10-minute overtime minutes and two penalty kick shootouts, the visiting Bears posted a 3-2 victory Wednesday.
Roland Mejia’s goal with six minutes remaining in regulation enabled Van Horn to tie the score 2-2.
Michael Payne scored the first goal for Van Horn (4-12-4). Luis Rodriguez and Mejia each had an assist.
“We had a chance to win it on the first penalty kicks,” Van Horn coach Greg McGhee said. “You have to execute when you have the opportunity.”
Chrisman’s Cesar Palomino scored an unassisted goal and assisted on Lucas Bru’s goal. Dylan Dennis scored the winning, sudden-death goal for the Bears (5-8-1) in the second shootout.
A Van Horn player missed his shot, giving Dennis the opportunity to end the game.
“The boys did a great job of keeping their heads in the game and competing for all 100 minutes,” Chrisman coach John Straub said.
Chrisman was a 2-0 junior varsity winner.
