  • Animals Best Friends: Chilly days mean chili time

  • Fall is in the air, and that means jeans and sweaters, pumpkins and hayrides, but most of all it means chili. It is time for the Animals Best Friends annual Chili Supper and Bingo Night. This is one of our most popular fundraisers, and volunteers work hard each year to make sure it doesn’t disappoint.

This fun-filled event will be held this Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 600 N. Liberty, Independence. For $7, guests can enjoy a bowl of chili, crackers, drink and dessert and receive one bingo card. Additional bingo cards may be purchased for $1 each. Raffles will be going on throughout the evening, with tickets available for $1 each. We will start serving our guests at 6 p.m. and the Bingo/Raffles begin at 7 p.m.
This event, like all ABF fundraisers, helps us keep our rescue facility going so we can place kids like Butterscotch. Butterscotch is a 4-year-old domestic medium-haired cat. He has beautiful orange and white markings and a little brown spot on his nose. He is playful and very loving and as adult cats go, he would make a great pet. He hasn’t been around infants, but would do fine around older children. If you are looking for a cat and think Butterscotch might be a good fit, please go to our website at www.animalsbestfriends.org and complete an application.
In the meantime, bring yourself, your friends and your appetite to the ABF Chili Supper and Bingo night this Saturday and enjoy supporting our homeless animals.
Animals Best Friends wish list includes: Purina Dog, Puppy, Cat and Kitten Chow, dog and cat treats and chews, cow hooves or rawhides, canned dog and cat food, stuffed (no beads) and Kong toys, laundry detergent, bleach, Fantastic spray, Dawn dish liquid, paper towels, newspapers, 39-gallon trash bags, blankets, sheets and cat litter. There is a paper recycling bin in the parking lot at ABF Headquarters, 2302 S. Crysler Ave., Independence. Please, no cardboard or telephone books. We appreciate your support.
The following animals are available for adoption at the Independence Animal Shelter. Visit the shelter at 875 Vista Ave. or call 325–7207 for more information. If you have an animal control problem, call 325-7205.
