Are you a parent not receiving child support from the non-custodial parent? Do you have an open case with Child Support Enforcement and they seem to be doing nothing for you?
To the editor:
Are you a parent not receiving child support from the non-custodial parent? Do you have an open case with Child Support Enforcement and they seem to be doing nothing for you? Are you being told that any type of payment received is acceptable and they won’t take action because it’s some type of payment? Are you a parent who is relying on state assistance because you’re not receiving child support?
From my own horrible life experience, the state of Missouri has done nothing for me and my child. This is a total outrage and I’m livid. Shouldn’t the state of Missouri be looking into new ways of handling the collection of moneys owed and repercussions of parents who do not pay?
It’s unacceptable that these parents are not being made to take responsibility for their actions. Is this standard of allowing deadbeat parents to “run free” OK with today’s society? The state of Missouri has been lenient far too long. A court order is a court order; why should anyone be allowed to break the law a judge has set and get away with it?
I’ve witnessed pettier crimes with harsher actions. Allowing someone to financially neglect their child seems to be what Missouri is promoting by their effortless attempts to make sure little to no criminal action is taken against the non-payer. Is this fair to our children? Children we are raising, and possibly struggling to raise.
It’s about time Missouri makes some new laws. We are talking about children who can’t support themselves. Letting these parents off with no criminal action is not okay with me. We as parents need to step up, stand together and fight for the rights of our child(ren). Call or write your local governor and let you voices be heard.
