The Independence Planning Commission meets every other Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the lower-level council chambers at City Hall, 111 E. Maple St. The commission met Tuesday, July 29, 2008, and took the following action. All votes were unanimous unless otherwise noted.

Continued cases

• Continued an application to rezone 3 acres from planned industrial to general commercial for gasoline sales east of the Little Blue Parkway. The case was continued to Aug. 12.

• Approved a final plan for a video store at the southeast corner of U.S. 24 and North Jackson Drive. Commissioners originally heard this proposal two weeks ago, but asked for changes in the plan.

Public hearings

• Continued a preliminary development plan for Truman Manor, which involves rezoning land south of East 23rd Street and north of Medical Drive Parkway, from general commercial to high density residential. The former Medical Center of Independence site is proposed to become a senior housing complex. The case was continued to Aug. 26.

• Approved a preliminary plan from Recovery Management Corporation, which operates Cargo Largo, just west of Noland Road, to rezone land to construct a new, 427,000-square-foot facility east of Weatherford Road, west of Noland Road between 31st and 33rd streets. The new facility will include office, retail and warehouse space.

• Continued a rezoning request for land north of West Maple Avenue, south of Truman Road and east of North Union Street from high-density residential to single-family residential. The case was continued to Aug. 12.

• Approved an application to rezone a one-acre lot at the northwest corner of Wilson and Kentucky roads from two-family residential to planned industrial. The site houses Wicklin Trucking.

• Approved a rezoning request from property at the southeast corner of Gudgell, east of South Noland Road from general commercial to planned general commercial. The site belongs to Alliance Automotive, Inc. The company plans to construct a used car lot and sales/reconditioning facility on the site.

Regular agenda

• Approved a final site plan for Alliance Automotive to construct a used car lot and sales/reconditioning facility on the site at the southeast corner of Gudgell, east of South Noland Road.

• Approved a final site plan for Wicklin Trucking at the northwest corner of Wilson and Kentucky Roads. The company plans to construct a facility for its trucking business, including a small commercial building with adjoining parking lots for customers and employees and another for storage of the company’s dump trucks.

Home business

• Approved a home business permit for David Todd to operate a massage therapy business at his residence at 1215 W. 26th Street.
