  • A motorcyclist died early Sunday morning when he crashed while apparently trying to avoid a second motorcycle that had already gone down on a curve.
The accident happened south of Blue Springs at Missouri 7 and Milton Thompson Road.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Office reported what has been pieced together from the investigation, which is ongoing.
Approximately 1 a.m., the Sheriff's office was called to the scene of an accident. When they arrived, Prairie Township Fire and emergency medical workers were treating the driver of a 2009 Harley Davidson. The 29-year-old Holden man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The other victim, who was driving a 2008 Harley Davidson Soft Tail, was pronounced dead at the scene. That victim, 26, was from Kingsville, Mo.
A Blue Springs Police accident reconstructionist and the Jackson County Medical Examiner's Office investigator said it appears that the two had been traveling east together on Milton Thompson Road and approached a sharp curve turning north. The first driver laid his motorcycle down on the road and slid into the guard rail on the east side of the road. The second motorcyclist swerved to avoid the other one and hit the gravel area then collided with the guard rail.
The drivers' identities will not be released until relatives are notified. They are reported to be cousins.
