  • The Veterans Way Memorial Project in Blue Springs has secured another lead partner.
Tandem Paving Co. in Blue Springs will present a $10,000 check to the project later this week. Tandem is also the general contractor for the memorial project.
“As a Gulf War veteran, I am deeply honored to participate in the construction of the Veterans Way Memorial,” said David Smith IV, president of Tandem Paving. “As the design of the memorial developed, I felt that I also wanted to be a major contributor to help honor the valor, sacrifice, comradeship and selfless patriotic acts that occurred on the battlefield while defending our nation.”
The Veterans Way Memorial is dedicated to the sacrifice, courage and valor of all veterans who served the United States. The memorial identifies the site where “The Wall That Heals,” the smaller replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall, was exhibited in Blue Springs two years ago.
It will also serve as a place for personal contemplation or reflection for veterans and veterans’ families and friends as well as provide a site for educating youth about the historical significance of wars fought in defense of the country. A dedication is planned in April.
Tandem Paving joins a growing list of lead partners, including ATK Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, Fike and the Blue Springs Elks Lodge.
Donations to the Veterans Way Memorial can be made through the Truman Heartland Community Foundation’s website at www.thcf.org. Select the “Donate Now” box in the upper left corner, and type “Veterans Way Memorial” as the fund name. All donations are tax deductible.
