  • Annie Dear: I’m so outraged I can’t see straight …

  • I have officially had it. Done. Over. I am not shutting up this time, despite protestations from my darling Sir that I will be targeted for this – and he is now officially on my side.

How many innocent children will it take before the NRA and other gun happy yahoos will admit that this latest evil of unspeakable horror in Connecticut that maybe, just maybe, there should be some more stringent laws regarding gun ownership in this otherwise pretty bloody fabulous country?
I can just see the those nations who wish us ill laughing up their sleeves at this latest tragedy – I mean who needs terrorists when they can rely on one of our very own to strike the most visceral, bone-deep terror in the hearts of every person throughout the world who even has a tenuous hold on a child?
According to the NRA website there are 56 members who grace the Board. I want to hear from each and every one of you and to be gripped by how you are going to justify your multimillion-dollar lobbying and fervently held God-given and Founding Father rights that you can explain this all away to this particular mother.
I want to hear how you will explain to the 5-year old why his teacher was gunned down in front of him and why his playmates won’t be at school tomorrow.
I want to hear how you are going to console the grief prostrated parents, aunts, uncles and grandparents who now look to Christmas as the most painful time of their lives. How are you going to tell them that somehow, through your posturing and political machinations, make it just fine and dandy for someone who was no doubt peeved at his parents for berating him for not cleaning his room, to vent his spleen by not only killing his parents, but by opening fire on the most precious innocents on the planet.
And then to make the gutless final decision to turn a gun on himself.
Come on boys – and the couple of girls who sit on this board – answer us. The rest of America, and indeed the world, are just dying to know.
See you have a problem. A really big one. I understand the “Right to Bear Arms” and all that horsehockey, but tell that to the kid who is really just out of diapers that one day – if he’s really good and doesn’t attract the attention of the FBI, he too can own a gun – any gun he wants – when he reaches 18. Are you now expecting the kindergarten teachers to pack heat in order to instruct the fine arts of finger painting and triangle playing?
Are you going to pay for armed guards at every school – elementary, middle, high, college and university – because we sure as hell can’t. Are you going to pay for the metal detectors and security staff? – I’m sorry, I can’t hear you.
Page 2 of 2 - You hypocrites. Your wallets just slammed shut, didn’t they? Merry bloody Christmas.
