  • W.C. “Billy” Fields, 66, of Buckner, Mo., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012.

  • W.C. “Billy” Fields, 66, of Buckner, Mo., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012.
    Billy was born February 16, 1946, in Independence, Mo., the son of William (Carl) Fields and Rachel (Denton) Fields. He worked for the Blue Springs Post Office for 30 years, retiring in 2005. He was a member of the Church of Santa Fe in Buckner since its beginning in 1965. Billy was a 4th degree member of The Knights of Columbus and enjoyed helping in the tootsie roll drive and serving Lenten fish fries at the church. He graduated in 1965 from St. Mary’s High School in Independence, Mo. He also made Eagle Scout with Troop #221. Billy was a devoted son, brother and uncle. He enjoyed gardening and was a connoisseur of fine foods. He never met a stranger and was loved by all. Billy was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Richard Fields.
    Survivors include a sister, Kathy Fields of Buckner, Mo.; brothers, Michael Fields ( JoAnn) of Lee’s Summit, Mo., and John Fred Fields ( Roberta) of Kansas City, Mo.; also several nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews; and a 101 year old Aunt, Ruth Fields.
    A memorial service at New Salem Funeral Home, 1823 N. Blue Mills Road, Independence, will be held on Friday, Nov. 23. There will be memory sharing and readings starting with the rosary at 5:30 p.m., with the family receiving friends until 8 p.m. Cremation. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Church of Santa Fe, 231 S. Sibley, P.O. Box No. 317, Buckner, MO 64016 or a favorite charity or food pantry in Billy’s memory.
