A robber on Tuesday got away with cash from the Church’s Chicken restaurant on 23rd Street. in Independence.

At 7:40 p.m., Independence police were called to the business at 10610 E. 23rd St. in response to an armed robbery.

An employee saw the suspect, described as being 5 foot, 6 inches, to 5 foot, 9 inches tall and medium build, walk into the restaurant. He wore a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a black ski mask.

He told everyone in the restaurant to get on the ground. He jumped the counter, grasping a handgun, according to police.

The man pointed a gun at the employee and demanded cash from the register. He got an undisclosed amount of cash, police say, and it was a moderate amount.
He fled north on foot from the store. No one was injured.

On Monday night, the Subway just up the street from Church’s was robbed. Police say there is no evidence at this point that it’s the same person.
