  • Gary Dean Bernard, 54, of Lee’s Summit, Mo., left this world on June 22, 2013, for more exciting adventures, surrounded by family and friends as the angels lifted him into their arms.
Gary the youngest of four boys was born July 17, 1958, to Kenneth and Mary Bernard of Liberty.  Gary was fun loving and loved to tease. He could lighten and fill a room just by walking in. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. Family and friends meant everything to him. He loved to cook for everyone, the more the merrier. He enjoyed all the kids that would hang out at the house and spent many a night playing cards with them. Gary will leave a big hole in all our hearts. Gary was a member of Woods Chapel Presbyterian of Blue Springs.
Gary is survived by his wife, Marilyn; daughter, Hunter; three stepsons, Kellee Valentine (Nicole) Arroyo Grande, Calif., Kristopher Valentine, Derby, Kan., and Kyle Valentine (Amanda) Austin, Texas; two brothers, Melvin Bernard of Blue Springs, and Ray Bernard (Sherry) of North Kansas City, Mo.; brother-in-law, James McClure, Lee’s Summit, Mo.; niece, Megan McClure; nephew, Zachary McClure; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Gary is also survived by his four-legged children, Chief, Tucker, Dakota and Max, his beloved Golden Retrievers. He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Glendon.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Chapel of Memories Funeral Home, Grain Valley. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m., with services starting at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, June 26, at the funeral home, 30000 Valor Drive, Grain Valley. Burial will follow at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley.
