Richard Laverne Spears, 65, of Blue Springs, Mo., passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at the Golden Living Nursing Center in Independence, Mo.

Richard Laverne Spears, 65, of Blue Springs, Mo., passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at the Golden Living Nursing Center in Independence, Mo.

Richard was born July 29, 1946, in Trenton, Mo., the son of Delbert Laverne and Deloris Elizabeth (Payne) Spears. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran and a Baptist by faith. He worked for Cargill and Bartlett Grain companies as an accountant.

On December 29, 1969, he married the love of his life Eilene Kay (Langford) Spears, who survives of the home. He is also survived by two sons, Eric Spears of Blue Springs, Mo., and Christopher Spears and wife, Nicky, of Buckner, Mo.; a brother, Michael Spears of Chillicothe, Mo.; and sister, Margaret Lovell and husband, Neil, of Jamesport, Mo.; five grandchildren Ashley, Colin, Chandler, Dylan and Chase; and one great-grandson, Gavin.

A Celebration of Richard’s life will be 7 p.m. Friday, March 2, at the Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Main St. Blue Springs, Mo., with the Rev. Cliff Caton officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. prior to service. Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Pilot Grove Cemetery No. 1, near Jamesport, Mo., with full military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs Building Fund.
