Jordan Hoffman, an eighth grader at Pleasant Lea Middle School in Lee’s Summit, has made the semifinals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

WHAT: Jordan Hoffman, an eighth grader at Pleasant Lea Middle School in Lee’s Summit, has made the semifinals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. She made it in her third try at the national bee. She was eliminated in the opening rounds in 2010 and 2011


HOW: The Jackson County Spelling Bee champion passed the round one written test and correctly spelled words in rounds 2 and 3 Wednesday. Fifty spellers made the semifinal round.


WHAT’S NEXT: Hoffman will compete in the semifinals, which will be aired on ESPN2 (Comcast Cable channel 29) starting at 9 a.m. CDT today.
