A sweep of the six singles matches ignited Lee’s Summit West to an 8-1 victory over host Lee’s Summit North Friday.

“A lot of our guys looked really tight for their first match of the season,” North coach Stuart Reece said. “Many of them settled down and played pretty well after a rough start. I’d really like to think we are a better team than we showed.”

Trenton Piepergerdes, Thomas Gardner, Nick Baker, Nathan Mikle, Tucker Kane and Ryan Gleue clinched the West victory with singles decisions. Baker and Mikle and Kane and Gleue prevailed in doubles.

Nathan Garrett and Warren Frevert, in No. 1 doubles, posted the only North victory.

“Warren and Nathan played a solid match to beat a good opponent,” Reece said.

West posted a 7-2 junior varsity victory.
