  • The presentation of the Harry S. Truman Public Service Award, set for 7 p.m. Friday, has been moved indoors due to the expected bad weather.
It’s in the main lobby of the Truman Library on U.S. 24 in Independence. The award, presented annually by the city of Independence, this year goes to Admiral Mike Mullen, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Afterward there’s a reception, also in the lobby. Both the ceremony and reception are open to the public.
Mullen was chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 2007 to 2011, making him the chief military adviser to President George W. Bush and then President Barack Obama.
