High winds, dry foliage are cause for concern.

Independence Fire Chief Sandra Schiess has issued a burn ban for all outside or open burning through Thursday.

The ban is due to strong winds and the highly combustible conditions of leaves and other foliage.

Due to information received from the National Weather Service all permits issued by the Independence Fire Department for March 30 through April 1 have been revoked.

In the interest of public safety, citizens are also reminded by the Fire Department that open burning of brush and vegetation is prohibited at all times within city limits. It is also important that citizens refrain from improper disposal of cigarettes, fireplace/wood stove ashes and the use of open flames.
