Keith Nelson, who is on death row for killing 10-year-old Pamela Butler and dumping her body in Grain Valley, filed court papers saying his lawyers were ineffective.

Nelson abducted, raped and murdered the Kansas girl in October 1999. Her body was found near a Grain Valley church four days later. He was convicted in 2002 and given the death penalty.

Nelson attempted to be removed from death row in 2003, saying mistakes were made in jury selection.

No hearing date has been set for Nelson’s latest appeal.
