Richard Cervantes, 69, passed away surrounded by family on December 21, 2010, after an 18 month, courageous battle with lung cancer.

Richard Cervantes, 69, passed away surrounded by family on December 21, 2010, after an 18 month, courageous battle with lung cancer.

Born June 1, 1941, in Mexico, Richard immigrated to the USA in 1955, and proudly became a citizen in 1976.

Richard is preceded in death by his mother, Rafaela Calderon; a sister, Elvira; and a brother, Mariano.Survivors include his high school sweet heart and wife of 52 years, Margaret; 3 daughters, Yolanda (John) Carrillo, Monica (Jim) Huffman, and Gina (Steve) Iverson; 6 grandchildren, Briana Shymkus, Andrew and Matthew Carrillo, Blake and Lauren Iverson, and Evan Huffman; 2 brothers, Tony and Joe; 3 sisters, Angelina, Maria, and Juanita; sister-in-law, Martha Frances and brother-in-law, John; and he will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Decemnber 28, 2010, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 3736 S Lee’s Summit Rd., Independence, MO. The Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. - 8  p.m. Monday at Floral Hills Funeral Home. Burial: Floral Hills East Memorial Gardens.
