Greetings from Alabama, where Bass Pro is flourishing. The police in this state have not, as far as I can tell, lowered their integrity to support a complete and total dishonest deception by a city, county or state governing entity. I’m referring to the tax the city of Independence is masking as a get-more-police tax.

To the editor:

To the hungry, losing-the-home taxpayer of Independence

Greetings from Alabama, where Bass Pro is flourishing. The police in this state have not, as far as I can tell, lowered their integrity to support a complete and total dishonest deception by a city, county or state governing entity. I’m referring to the tax the city of Independence is masking as a get-more-police tax.

I am not a stranger to Independence, I was born, raised and was employed by the city for 30 plus years before I retired. My family left Independence because this city is more corrupt than Chicago. I have no dog in your fight, but it does pain me during these times to see a government, such as Independence, use deception as this. If the city was concerned about the taxpayer – you know, the real person who owns the city – why close down fire stations and provide two firefighters to respond to your home from other fire stations? Why not reallocate current funding? Oh, I forgot. They don’t have any money?

The city of Independence has abused and used the taxpayer for years, and you and the city have nothing to show for it. Get smart for once and vote “no” on the tax increase, and to be honest, your local cop will probably thank you for voting “no.”

See if Bass Pro moves out of Independence, and if they do, then good riddance.
