To the editor:

You have to ask yourself why anyone would write a letter, never mind a guest column, defending Rush Limbaugh (The Examiner, Wednesday, “Tired and trite attacks on Rush”). The writer, a Mr. Wayman, no doubt agrees with much of what Rush has to say or otherwise he wouldn’t be inclined to write to support him. So you have to wonder, is he supporting Rush or really just defending his own belief system.

His political name calling immediately identifies him as a member of Rush’s dittoheads. The bulk of his commentary supports Rush on the premise that giving large sums of money to various charities somehow makes Rush a “good” person. The whole Rush vs. Hitler comparison is just a smokescreen. Most laughable is the idea that Rush is a good guy because he provides employment for a large number of people and “saved” talk radio. There’s one likeness he missed. Hitler provided income for a large number of people.

Finally, to suggest that the lady he is attacking won’t find anything offensive about Rush’s program is based entirely on his assumption that what Rush says isn’t offensive. Obviously Rush isn’t offensive to Mr. Wayman, but that doesn’t make him palatable to me or the advertisers that chose to pull their support in the wake of one of his all-too-common outbursts.

Please do your readership a favor and don’t publish this level of commentary again.
