Two Independence businesses were robbed within an hour and a half of each other on Wednesday night.

Dollar General, on the 16000 block of East U.S. 24, and BP, 17000 block of East U.S. 24, were both robbed, according to police.

At Dollar General, a white male, described as thin and in his 20s or 30s, walked into the store at about 9:30 p.m. and pointed a handgun at a cashier, demanding money. Once in possession of it, he left on foot.

While police were at Dollar General investigating the incident, a black man, believed to be wearing a blue scarf over his face, walked into the BP store at about 10:50 p.m. and pointed a handgun at the clerk and demanded money and cigarettes.

The man left the store and headed south behind the building, dropping some of the money as he ran.

“It’s really too early to know right now if they are connected,” said Tom Gentry, spokesperson for Independence police.
