St. Mary’s seniors compete for scholar-athlete award 
Ashton Nibert and Shauna Bauml, both seniors at St. Mary’s High School, were recently recognized as nominees to the 2010 Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year Award Program. They will now compete in regional and national competitions.
The SAMMY Awards recognize exceptional high school student athletes who demonstrate excellence in the classroom, on the athletic field and in their communities. Developed by the Milk Industry to promote education as well as good health, this is the 13th year of the Sammy program.

UCM scholarships awarded to three EJC students
Three area students have been awarded scholarships to attend the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo.

Daniel J. Drerup, Blue Springs, received a $2,000 Red and Black Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to incoming UCM freshmen based upon their high school cumulative grade point average and ACT composite score. The scholarship is renewable and can be received for a maximum of eight semesters of undergraduate study. Drerup is a senior at Blue Springs High School and plans to major in safety management. Naomi D. Watson, Sugar Creek, received a $2,000 Red and Black Scholarship. She is a senior at Center Place Restoration School in Independence and plans to major in political science. Jennifer A. Brawdy, Independence, received a $1,000 Red and Black Scholarship. She is a senior at William Chrisman High School and plans to major in nursing.
