Independence police are seeking information concerning six first-degree burglaries that have occurred in the northwest area of the city during the past five weeks.

According to Tom Gentry, a spokesperson for police, each of the six burglaries has taken place when residents were sleeping inside their homes.

The burglaries occur typically between 11 p.m. and 9 a.m., according to police. Suspects have been cutting screens and entering the homes, making their way into the bedroom and stealing wallets, purses and cash.

The burglar then leaves the home through the front door.

Expressing concern, police say there is a great potential for a violent encounter between the burglar and house residents.

If anyone has any information regarding these burglaries or who the suspect(s) may be, please call the Tips Hotline at 816-474-TIPS or the Independence Police Investigative Division at 816-325-7330.
