A long road trip for the Missouri Mavericks on Saturday made for an even longer drive home.

The Mavericks fell behind 6-0 on their way to a 6-1 loss to the Mississippi RiverKings at the DeSoto Civic Center.

Bobby Chaumont scored a hat trick, notching all three goals by the 12:01 mark of the second period as the RiverKings coasted to the victory.

That leaves the Mavericks with wins only against Wichita this season. They are 0-8-1 against the rest of the Central Hockey League.

Ryan Held scored just 31 seconds into the game for Mississippi. Chaumont added the next three goals, starting with the first just a minute later after Held’s tally.

Mavericks starting goalie Mike Gorman was replaced by Doug Groenestege after giving up Chaumont’s first goal. Gorman suffered the loss to drop to 1-4-1.

Mavericks captain Tyler Fleck scored the team’s lone goal with 1:12 remaining in the game to prevent the shutout and finalize the score. Mississippi outshot Missouri 28-26 and finished 1-for-4 on the power play. The Mavericks were 0-6 on the power play, ending their three-game streak of games with power play goals.

Jeff Christian assisted on Tyler Fleck’s goal to extend his scoring streak to six games, giving him 11 points on two goals and nine assists in that span.

Chad Hinz, though, saw his seven-game scoring streak come to a halt. He had 12 points – five goals and seven assists – in that stretch. It was just the second game this season in which Hinz has failed to score.

The Mavericks, now 4-8-1, return to action Thanksgiving night with a road game at Tulsa. They then return home Friday night to meet Wichita at the Independence Events Center at 7:05 p.m.
