Thomas W. Thatcher, Jr., age 91, of Shawano, WI, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at a local nursing home. 

Thomas W. Thatcher, Jr., age 91, of Shawano, WI, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at a local nursing home.  

Thomas was born on November 5, 1920, in Mississippi, City, MS to the late Thomas William and Madge Alice (Mendenhall) Thatcher. Thomas spent much of his childhood in Independence, MO. He later attended Graceland College, now known as Graceland University, and received his Electrical Engineering Degree from Iowa State University. Thomas spent his entire professional career working as an electrical engineer for Bell Telephone Laboratories, achieving 44 years of service. While working for the U.S. Army on loan from Bell Labs, he met Lt. j.g. Lois Maxine Constance in Washington, D.C. The couple married on September 12, 1946, and remained together until her death in February of 1994. Thomas was very active throughout his life in the Community of Christ, achieving the office of High Priest which he held until his Superannuation in 2010. He also served on the Board of Outreach International of Independence, MO, and was active with the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Shawano County Historical Society, the Friends of the Library, in amateur radio and as a hospice volunteer.

Thomas is survived by: 3 sons, John (Sandra) Thatcher of Kenosha, Dr. Gregory (Patricia) Thatcher of Shawano, David (Vickie) Thatcher of Riverside, MO; a daughter, Constance Thatcher of Brooklyn, NY; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary (Lee) Beckwith of Rapid City, SD; and a brother, David Thatcher of Blue Springs, MO.

Thomas was preceded in death by: his wife, Lois; his parents; his brother, Ellis; and his sister, Doris Lee (Gene) Beckwith.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2011, at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano, WI. A memorial service and interment will be held in Cameron, MO, at a later date.
