Barbara Ann Vermillion, 84, Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, October 24, 2008, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center due to complications from an illness.

Barb was born October 1, 1924 in Wichita, KS after graduation from Wichita’s East High School in 1942, Barb attended a business college and later was employed by several law firms as a legal secretary. After settling in Independence, Mo. with her family, Barb worked for Larry Lester Construction Company as a secretary and bookkeeper, retiring after 18 years of service.

In life, Barb’s, first love was her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, husband and little dog, Maggie. Barb loved sharing good times with good friends. She took pleasure in the “cool” things in life; her yellow mustang, good looking quarterbacks like Joe Montana and actress Kate Hepburn, tailgating with her family at her grandson’s soccer games, keeping her grandkids in the trendiest clothes, dancing, traveling, Court TV, and playing the lotto. Barb was so excited when she discovered how to use e-mail and surf the net. In her pastime, Barb enjoyed painting and making creative keepsakes for her family that will be treasured forever. Her spunky personality was enjoyed by close friends, bunko girls and especially at family gatherings.

What our “Mom” gave us cannot be measured but only felt. “Mom” was and will always be the cornerstone of our family.

Those left to cherish Barb’s memory are her husband of 60 years George H. Vermillion, and children; David H, Vermillion and his wife Vicki, of Lees Summit, Missouri; Debra A, Vermillion of Prairie Village, Kansas; Douglas B. Vermillion and his wife Christy of Lees Summit, Mo., four grandchildren, Scott, Craig, Sean and Ryan, step-grandson Dustin, two great-grandchildren; Braeden and Ava, sister Patricia Holmes of Wichita, KS., half-sister Deleel Rucker of Reddley, Ca. Barb is also survived by many nieces and a nephew whom she loved and many dear friends.
