Keith Albert, a teacher at Pleasant Lea Middle School, recently completed a 3,537-mile, coast-to-coast bicycle trip. Albert, who teaches engineering and industrial technology, traveled through nine states including California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky and Virginia.

Albert, who prepared for the trip for several months, averaged 63 miles each day with his longest day at 119 miles. During the 58 days, he averaged seven hours daily on the bike.

Technology was also a big part of Albert’s travels and preparation – he used a GPS system with maps and directions. In addition, he had a GPS Sport tracking system that allowed his family and friends to follow him across the country.

An iPod loaded with music, a library of audio books and a few movie comedies helped to keep him occupied.
