Good evening everyone. Yes, I’m writing this article in the evening.  Bill and I are planning to visiting our Grandson Cade in Texas in the next several days, and I suddenly realized that I wouldn’t have access to the Internet for my next article so guess what? I’m working real hard to get this submitted before we leave.

Needless to say, I’ve been very busy baking cookies as we always take homemade cookies when we visit Cade.  Thank goodness I got the cookies baked this afternoon so I have one important aspect of our trip taken care of.  I am really looking forward to this trip.  It’s been awhile since we’ve seen Cade and it’s time for MeMa and PaPa to spoil our little guy and of course while we are there we will have a birthday party.  I can’t believe he is turning 6.  Time passes so quickly it seems like yesterday he was born.

Have you folks been watching the winter Olympics on TV?  As much as I try to avoid cold weather and am always attempting to find warmer weather, I totally enjoy watching the Olympics.  Each evening after dinner we immediately go to the den and watch the night’s events. I can’t begin to tell you which event I enjoy the most, I think it even changes on a daily basis.  I am even impressed with the wardrobe of the athletes.  Each of the American athletes is wearing apparel that lets you know where they are from, and of course everything is red, white and blue. Possibly the Olympics are very special this year as Bill and I have been to Vancouver and we are enjoying seeing the views of the city again.

During the Olympics isn’t it fantastic to see the patriotism of our athletes?  The teamwork and support of each of the athletes has been awesome this year.  It appears more prevalent to me this year at these Olympics but possibly I have noticed more this year.  Everywhere you turn you see the colors Red, White and Blue and if you don’t notice the colors, you see the huge smiles and then see the American flag displayed. And, of course, every time we win a gold metal we hear the National Anthem.  What a better time to display our patriotism and love of the USA than at the Olympics.  The Olympics games always unites our country in support of our team. The pride and honor shown by the athletes in the opening ceremonies as they walked into the stadium representing the United States of America brings chills to you. The honor expressed by the athlete selected to carry the flag and the respect shown to it by all the athletes is truly heartfelt. Our athletes have made the USA proud and we could possibly go home with more winter metals than ever before.. You realize I get to go to Texas to visit my grandson and watch the Olympics because of our veterans and military.  Without you we wouldn’t be allowed the freedoms we enjoy today.  In fact we saw several military groups watching the Olympics especially the opening ceremony.  Thank goodness the military personnel get to watch and enjoy some of the enthusiasm that our World Wide Athletes provide at the Olympics.  Thanks again for your service.  Isn’t it fascinating to watch but at the Olympics most of the world can get along…wouldn’t world peace be a nice thought?

I had a VA appointment this week and it’s amazing the number of patients the VA Center takes care off  In fact, it’s such a small world that Bill and I ran into two veterans that we know.  Many times we just speak and thank the veterans for their service but in this instance we actually ran into friends.  The world truly is a small place.  Again I would like to thank the VA Center for everything you do for the patients and their family.

I would like to mention that VFW Post 1000 is open to the public.  Please come and visit.  The post has meals on Friday evening along with karaoke.  In April, we will be starting up our Flea Market and be doing a cruise night for classic and other cars, motorcycles are also welcome.  I will provide details later, but the Post is always doing something so please come by and check it out.  We would love to see you.

Don’t forget if you ever need to contact me, I can be reached by email at ktaylorvfw@live.com.

I hope you are enjoying the Olympics as much as I am, please fly your flag in honor of our athletes and military present and past.  I truly like driving everywhere and seeing the flags soaring in the sky.

I hope you have a good week and talk to you soon.
