About Dog Eared Books:
It’s the third name and third location for what is now called Dog Eared Books at 3625 S. Noland Road. The store offers both new and used paperback books for most ages. Most used paperbacks are sold at one-half the publishers’ suggested retail price.

Smith and her partner , Phil Jorgenson, purchased the store nine years ago.

1 Why did you name the store Dog Eared Books? We were just sitting around trying to think of a name, and someone suggested Dog Eared Books so that’s what we went with. You know, when you dog ear pages in a book, which we don’t like that done. Bookmarks are great.”

2 How is business? “Last year was our busiest year in the nine years we’ve owned it. People are trying to cut back, bring in their used books and trading.”

3 A lot of people don’t read beyond the first couple of chapters of a book they buy. Why? “A lot of people bring them back and say ‘this was terrible.’ Tastes in books are very subjective. That’s why we have a wide selection.

4 What’s the average price range? It’s half the cover price so it’s usually $2 to $4.
