Tom Ruddy pitched a two-hitter and struck out six as Post 21 posted a 9-2 opening-game victory.


Home runs by Jared Simmons, Brandon Dulin and Blake Studer powered the Pirates to an 8-5 second game victory.


Corey Biegel singled twice and Josh Felz singled and doubled for first-place Post 21 (21-6,16-2) in the opening game. Corey Marcks doubled and homered for the Pirates (3-16, 1-15).


Post 21 wasted a 13-hit attack in the second game. Jamie Hayes singled twice and doubled, Jake Wingo singled and doubled and Ruddy, Tanner Burkett and James O’Dell each singled twice.


The Pirates scored two runs in the sixth inning for an 8-5 lead to seal the victory.


“We played well in both games very well,” Post 21 manager Tom Bush said. “Ruddy pitched extremely well. We made a base-running mistake in the second game that hurt. But we will learn from it. Overall, I was very well pleased with the way the kids played tonight.”


HI-BOY DRIVE IN/POST 340 4-10, CHILLICOTHE 3-4: A banner Post 340 season continued with the non-zone sweep at the Independence Athletic Complex.


Spencer Gearhart doubled in the winning run as Post 340 rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the first game. Gearhart also was the winning pitcher with two innings of relief and also had another double.


Luke Crabb pitched the second-game victory and hit a home run and a single. Joel Frias had three singles and Ryan Stick singled and doubled as Post 340 improved to 20-5.


BLUE SPRINGS POST 499/FIKE 14, WARRENSBURG POST 131 1: Sam Morman went 5-for-5 with two doubles and one RBI in pacing a 16-hit attack as Post 499/Fike posted an easy non-zone victory at Hidden Valley Park.


Shay Parra singled and tripled with four RBIs, Dylan Farrell singled and tripled with two RBIs, Anthony Dutcher singled twice and doubled with two RBIs and Jared Ginter added two hits.


A scheduled nine-inning game was stopped after Post 131 batted in the top of the seventh because of the 10-run mercy rule. Fike (20-9) scored in every inning, including three runs on four occasions.


Winner Spencer Picard and Brett Valentine combined for a four-hitter.


“It was good to bounce back after two tough losses last night (to the Blue Springs Rod’s Sports A’s),  Post 499 manager Jim Moran said. “Hopefully, we can build on this and keep going.”


HARRISONVILLE POST 42 9-6, INDEPENDENCE VFW POST 1000/JERRY’S SPORTS BEARS 8-4: Post 42 defeated the Bears twice in a non-zone doubleheader Wednesday night at the Independence Athletic Complex.


Harrisonville led 9-5 after four innings and held on to win the first game. Auston Mavis took the loss. Grant McCoy led the Bears with a grand slam. Andy Anderson had three singles and Dakota Knight two singles.


A three-run fourth inning for a 5-3 lead ignited Harrisonville in the second game. Omar Herrera was the losing pitcher. Jake Douthat singled and doubled, Anderson singled twice and Knight doubled as the Bears fell to 9-24.
