Charles Rex Mhoon, 77, of Napoleon, Mo., passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at his home.

Charles Rex Mhoon, 77, of Napoleon, Mo., passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at his home.


He was born July 8, 1935, to Wayne and Oleta Rinehart Mhoon. Mr. Mhoon was employed as a case manager at The Salvation Army Crossroads Family Shelter in Independence, Mo., for the past seven years. He had provided support to many throughout his life as a teacher at Central Missouri University in Warrensburg, a GED teacher at Judge Mason Center, and worked as a drug and alcohol counselor in several treatment programs.


He is survived by his sons Christopher Thomas Mhoon, Edmond, Okla., and Jack Allen “Chip” Nichelson Jr., Iberia, Mo. He has five grandchildren, Christopher Mhoon II, Jaxson Mhoon, Josalynn Nichelson, Payeton Nichelson, and Fallyn Nichelson.


A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 1, at The Salvation Army Independence Corps, 14700 E. Truman Road, Independence. Memorial gifts are requested to be sent to The Salvation Army Crossroads Family Shelter, 14700 E. Truman Road, Independence, MO 64050.
