Independence police have tentatively identified a possible suspect in the vandalism at the city’s Athletic Complex, but as of Thursday had not charged anyone in the case.
Police Sgt. John Bullard said investigators have identified a suspect but have to follow up on a couple of other leads before they release information on the suspect or charge the suspect with a crime.
“Right now we are just following up on leads,” Bullard said. “We don’t have anybody charged yet. We’re still working on it.”
On May 18 vandals destroyed property at the Athletic Complex, knocking down nine decorative light poles at the ballpark at 17800 Salisbury Road, 1/2 mile east of Missouri 291 and Salisbury.
The city of is offering up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the incident, which  happened sometime between 10 p.m. May 18, and 1 a.m. May 19.
