Joanie Shover loves Coca-Cola memorabilia. Every room in her Blue Springs home is decorated with the classic red and white colors along with a variety of collector’s items.

That decorating goes a step further during the Christmas holiday season as Christmas tree lights and lots of Santa Clauses join her already festive atmosphere.

“It usually takes at least four days to completely finish decorating for Christmas,” she said. “I think my favorite decorations are the animated Santas. We have about 20, and you can’t really find them anymore. I like them all.”

Shover’s home is one of five on the annual Blue Springs Historical Society’s 8th annual Christmas Homes Tour. The tour, which began Friday, continues from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Tickets are $10 per person if purchased at Ben’s Lawn and Garden, Memories Tea Room and Cafe, Petals and Potpourri, Special Events, Soda Foundation/Flower Shop, St. Mary’s Hospital Gift Shop, the Vintage Daisy or The Yellow Strawberry. Tickets are $12 per person if purchased at the homes.

“The goal is to raise money for our operational expenses,” said Frances Hose, coordinator for this year’s homes tour. “We usually have between 300 and 400 people come through, so we are hoping for at least that many this year.”

Shover said she enjoys her Coca-Cola collection because of the “cheerfulness” it brings to her home. She said adding the Christmas decorations very year simply makes it that much more enjoyable.

“I think it’s the red and white. It just gives off a good feeling,” she said. “We also have four (Christmas) trees in the house, most with Coca-Cola ornaments.”

Judy Wales, a Blue Springs resident, said she enjoys attending the Christmas homes tour because she always comes away with decorating ideas of her own.

“Everything is decorated so tastefully,” she said. “Not only do I find ideas for Christmas, but for other times throughout the year. It is always a lot of fun.”
