Cierra Sua scored 12 points, Elizabeth Leroy added eight and Morgan Wasleski and Kelsey Edwards had seven apiece to lead the Falcons to a 45-13 rout of Kansas City East Christian Academy in the Summit Christian Academy’s Eagle Invitational tournament Wednesday night.

The consolation bracket victory put the Falcons at 1-2 and qualified them for the fifth-place game against University Academy at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

“It was nice to get into the win column and to play some players who have not gotten to play much this season and get them some experience,” Van Horn coach Julie Crowell said.

The Falcons coasted after taking an 18-4 first-quarter lead. They were in command 39-6 at halftime.

Van Horn meets University Academy for fifth place at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

UNIVERSITY ACADEMY 47, ST. MARY’S 40: University Academy outscored the Trojans 12-9 in the fourth quarter to secure a consolation bracket victory in the SCA Eagle Invitational.

“Toward the end we got outhustled,” St. Mary’s coach Krista Daniels said. “We didn’t hit our free throws (7 of 16) and all-around need to be more aggressive in taking the ball to the basket.”

Shayla Jochum’s 11 points, Nina Gavoli’s 10 and Alexis Sirna’s nine guided the Trojans (0-3), who led 21-19 at halftime.

The Trojans meet Kansas City East Christian Academy in the seventh-place game at 3:30 p.m. Friday.

LAFAYETTE COUNTY 45, OAK GROVE 43: Host Lafayette County held on after taking a 23-14 halftime lead to edge Oak Grove in Higginsville.

“We kept battling,” Oak Grove coach Mike Cox said. “I was proud of that.”

Sophie Jo Whitehead paced the Panthers (1-1) in scoring with 13 points , including four 3-pointers. Jordyn Anspach added 10 points.

The Panthers are idle until facing Odessa Tuesday night in the Lafayette County Tournament in Higginsville.
