  • The Grain Valley wrestling team took on some bigger schools to open the season.
And Eagles coach Jesse Whitson was happy with what he saw so far.
The Eagles downed host Olathe (Kan.) South 48-12, but fell 40-30 to Blue Valley (Kan.) North and 44-17 to traditional power Raymore-Peculiar 44-17.
“It was good to get a team win under our belt,” Whitson said. “The guys wrestled well for our first competition of the year. We have a long way to go to get where we want to be at the end of the season, so it's important that we improve every day.”
Harrison Bamman (113 pounds), Mavrick Alexander (120), Hunter Bajkowski (170), Shelby Mavis (195) and Joe Sodano (195) all won each of their matches in the quad meet at Olathe.
The Eagles return to action Saturday when they host the Grain Valley Eagle Invitational.
