  • William Thomas Oxley Sr., 75, of Independence, Mo., passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Veteran’s Administration Hospital, Kansas City, Mo., following a brief illness.

  • William Thomas Oxley Sr., 75, of Independence, Mo., passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Veteran’s Administration Hospital, Kansas City, Mo., following a brief illness.
    William was born April 30, 1937, in Cheboygan, Mich., to Harold and Mildred Oxley, the fifth of sixteen children. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and following his retirement for Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Co., he remained active in many area programs geared for the developmentally disabled including the Special Olympics. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara Joan Oxley; sister, Edith; brothers, Harold, Jr., Norman, Miles, James and Jacob.
    Survivors include daughter, Lisa; sons, William Jr., Norman (Virginia), Jesse and Scott; sisters,  Margaret, Sandra, Ann, Ruth and Mary; brothers, Kingsley, Ralph, Jan and Maynard; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family and friends throughout the community.
    He brightened any room with his smile and laughter and anyone who met him left with a smile on their face.
    Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Chapel of Memories Funeral Home, 30000 Valor Drive, Grain Valley, Mo. Visitation will precede the services at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Swan Lake Memorial Park, Grain Valley.
