  • A man remains in critical condition after he was found severely beaten late Friday night in western Independence.
Independence police were called about 10:30 p.m. Friday to the area of 2200 S. Hall St. on a medical call. They found a 51-year-old Asian man lying in the roadway. The man, who was a delivery person for a local restaurant, apparently had been beaten, with significant injuries to his face.
He was taken to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Witnesses described seeing two men assault the victim. One was a white male in his early 20s, clean shaven, average build with a muscular upper body, approximately 5-foot-9 and 180 to 200 pounds. The second was a Hispanic man in his early 20s, dark skinned, with a slender build. Both were believed to have been on foot, and one possibly having a bicycle.
Tom Gentry, public information officer for Independence Police, said that police thought the victim had been delivering a meal to the suspects. Gentry said a pizza delivery man had been called earlier but got suspicious when he arrived in the area and drove away.
Gentry said police do not know what the motive was for the beating.
Independence Police are asking if anyone has any information regarding the suspects, and/or the crime committed, please call the TIPS Hotline at 474-8477, or the Independence Police Department at 816-325-7330, or 816-836-3600.
