  • Truman’s opening test in the North Kansas City High School boys basketball tournament wasn’t much of a test.
    Lane Titus scored 19 points, DeWayne Thornton added 16 and Tom Ruddy had eight to lead the Patriots to an easy 71-40 victory over Belton Monday night.
    Truman (8-5) faces Oak Park at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the semifinals.
    FORT OSAGE 53, CAMERON 42: The Indians continued their successful first half of the season by capturing third place in the Bulldog Classic Saturday at Kearney.
    Austin Regier and Skylar Thompson paced the Indians (10-4) with 12 points and D’Vante Mosby added nine points and 11 boards. Regier also held Cameron shooting guard Carter Morrison scoreless until the game’s final two minutes.
    “It was a big win,” Fort coach Josh Wilson said.
    VAN HORN 64, POLO 62: Robert Bluett posted a career-high 26 points to lead the Falcons to a third-place finish in the Bill Burns Classic Saturday at Lathrop.
    Anthony Winningham chipped in with 13 points as the Falcons (4-8) outscored Polo 25-18 in the fourth quarter.
    GRAIN VALLEY 51, BELTON 43: The Eagles outscored the Pirates 22-12 during the middle two quarters to set up the victory and nab third place in the Pleasant Hill Invitational Friday night.
    Daniel Mahurin’s 19 points, Jordan Mahurin’s 12 and Cody Zeigler’s nine guided the Eagles (5-7).
