Independence police arrested two people for driving while intoxicated during a weekend sobriety checkpoint and saturation patrol.

The checkpoint happened at Jackson Drive south of 39th Street at the same time of the DWI saturation patrol in that area.

The saturation patrol happened late Friday and the checkpoint occurred from 1 to 2:15 a.m. Saturday but was shortened because of rain. It was staffed by 12 officers.

Sixty-four vehicles were checked at the checkpoint and 20 cars were stopped during the patrol.

In addition to the two DWI arrests, police cited 11 drivers for hazardous moving violations, three for no valid driver’s license, 13 for other traffic violations and three for warrant arrests.
