The Falcons prevailed 4-2 in a shootout to post a 2-1 Crossroads Conference victory over visiting Barstow Tuesday

“It was a total effort,” Van Horn coach Chris Corrie. ‘We dominated the eighth ranked team in the state. We played our best soccer of the season.”

Barstow took a 1-0 lead in  the 31st minute. Van Horn tied the score 30 seconds before halftime. Carlos Borders assisted on Roland Mejia’s goal

The  teams then battled through a scoreless second half and two 10-minute overtimes before Van Horn (5-6-1, 1-1) prevailed in the shootout.

Van Horn was coming off three losses in last week’s Belton Tournament.

WILLIAM CHRISMAN 4, RAYTOWN 0: William Chrisman soccer got its third win of the season with a 4-0 victory against Raytown on Tuesday.

Wes White led the way for the Bears scoring two goals and assisting on another. Matt Fleissner scored two goals.

“Coming off a lot of games last week, we were a lot more controlled,” Chrisman coach John Straub said. “Hopefully, we’ll continue to improve this week.”

The Bears are 3-10 overall and 2-3 in the Suburban Middle Seven Conference.

OAK GROVE 3, PLEASANT  HILL: Zach Leamon’s two unassisted goals and another by Pedro Ramirez guided Oak Grove to a Missouri River Valley Conference victory over visiting Pleasant Hill. Keeper Josh Keeton made three saves for shutout.

“We played well,” coach Ben Thomason said of Oak Grove (6-5, 3-2).  “We passed the ball around. We struggled at the end of last week and it was good to see us on the winning side to start a tough week.”

The Oak Grove junior varsity also triumphed 3-1.
